The house underwent a major renovation, transforming its dark and dated interiors into a bright, modern home that connects to its landscape. The original house was constructed in the 1960s; its interiors had become dated both aesthetically and functionally. The client sought an open floor plan with more natural light and views. SVA created the desired spaces by punctuating partition walls with wide openings between rooms; adding walls of windows, glass doors, and the occasional clerestory; equalizing an array of undulating floor heights; capturing abandoned space to create angled ceilings; and incorporating dramatic materials that add visual interest and sophistication. Contemporary furnishings are accented by colorful walls and artifacts collected from the owner’s extensive world travels.
